Does Altea have everything?

Situated on the White Coast, some people say this is one of the most wonderful places in all of Spain. Altea is located in the Alicante province some 11 kilometres from Benidorm and 62 kilometres from the international airport of Altet in Alicante. If you hire a car, Altea is easy to access as it is located on the N332 with access to the A7 motorway. If you have not been to Altea before you are in for a surprise when you see the cobblestone streets, shingled beaches, historic monuments and art galleries. This is truly a haven for artists.

When you enter the Old Town, the impressive Parish Church of the Virgin del Consuelo will amaze you with its glorious blue dome. Its white ceramic tiles will dazzle you and the views from the top of the church over Altea Bay are fantastic. Alongside the church is some exquisite cobblestone streets and, as you would find in a lot of Moorish villages, they are lined with whitewashed houses. Standing at 1,130 metres in height, the nearby Sierra de Bernia Mountains are a nature lover’s paradise, a climber’s dream come true and the sightseeing is fabulous. The hills of the mountains leading down to the promenade which is great for those long strolls. If you are interested in cacti then head over to the nearby Cactuslandia which has on display rare cactus and exotic birds.

If it is a beach life that you are after the main beach of Playa la Roda is a blend of golden sand and pebbles. If you choose to stroll around Altea Bay you will come across a number of beaches and coves including some resorts such as Alfas del Pi. For a beach holiday with water sports, you struck gold as Altea has two water sports centres, both of which are well versed on sports: the Greenwich Marina and EL Club Nautico de Altea. The activities that both centres offer include water skiing, fishing, windsurfing, diving, sailing and boat cruises. If you prefer to see some million dollar yachts and cruisers head over to the Luis Campomanes harbour.

When you are in Altea you will not be far away from a bar, cafe, restaurant or nightclub and to make it even better all of them have a range of cultural events along with entertainment. This is the place to sample some of the best local cuisines on the coast and of course the local wine. You can eat, play and drink there until the sun comes up: now that is a tasty vibrant city.

For a day out from your in Altea venture over to Guadalest and explore the Moorish Mountain Fortress. There is also the Penon de Ifach at Calpe which you can climb, making a day of some fantastic panoramic views from the top of this huge rock over the bay and
